About the role
The Telemetry Medical Surgical Float registered nurse position is based in a healthcare facility in a designated zone around Garden City, Kansas. This role involves providing patient care across multiple units, including general medical-surgical, neuro, cardiac, oncology, and other specialties. The position requires flexibility to float within the zone and work 11.5-hour day shifts, with a minimum commitment of 34.5 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient care across multiple units, including general medical-surgical, neuro, cardiac, oncology, renal, and surgical units
- Float within Zone 4, covering multiple hospitals and units as required
- Manage patient ratios of approximately 1:5-6 depending on acuity
- Titrate infusible medications such as Heparin
- Care for patients across various acuity levels, including ICU, PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele
- Assist with weekend shifts (6-9 within a 6-week schedule) and holiday rotations
Requirements
- Valid license to practice as a registered nurse
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Minimum of 2 years of recent telemetry medical-surgical experience
- Availability for orientation within the state without more than three missed shifts during the assignment
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior neuro nursing experience
- Familiarity with Alaris infusion pumps
- EPIC electronic health record system experience
Schedule
- 12-hour day shifts, 11.5 hours per shift
- Minimum of 34.5 hours per week
- Schedule released 4-6 weeks in advance, with rotations of 7-7 days
- Flexibility required to help fill gaps in permanent staffing
- First float assignment communicated on or before the Monday start date

- Minimal call or standby required
- Hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts during the assignment
