About the role

Travel ER RN position at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri. Start date as soon as possible within 3-4 weeks of offer. Shift is nights (6p-6a) with weekends required. Blocked scheduling may be requested.

Requirements

  • At least 2+ years of ED RN experience
  • At least 1+ year of travel experience
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC certifications
  • Ability to handle all patients from ESI level 1-5
  • Ability to manage a 4-5:1 patient ratio (assuming ESI level 3 average patient)
  • Experience caring for stroke, STEMI, trauma, and sepsis patients
  • Strong triage and rapid patient assessment skills
  • Proficiency in clinical skills including PIV, NG/OG tubes, foley catheters, splinting, and wound care
  • Ability to assist with art line, central line, and chest tube placement
  • Willingness to answer call lights, transport patients, and assist with psych patient placement calls during nights/weekends
  • Willingness to float to other departments when not needed in the ED (average of 1 shift per 13-week period)
  • Experience with EDIS Medhost EMR and Omnicell medication dispensing system
  • Ability to mix medication drips with vial-to-bag adapter on night shift
  • Knowledge of EMTALA paperwork requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a preceptor and/or charge nurse
  • Willingness to help precept new staff eventually
  • Experience with ultrasound-guided IV placement

Department Details

  • Facility size: 93 beds
  • Emergency Department beds: 11
  • Monthly department volume: 1,100 patients
  • Designations: Level III trauma center, ACC Chest Pain/STEMI center, Joint Commission Acute Ready Stroke Center
  • Team-based approach with direct-to-bed process when possible
  • No inpatient psych unit; ER boards psych patients until placement is found
  • No Bar Code Medication Administration (scanning) currently in the ED

Scope of Role

Serve patients of all ages (neonates to elderly) presenting to the Emergency Department.
