About the role
The operating room (OR) open heart specialist role is based in Iowa City, Iowa. This position involves providing advanced cardiac surgical support, including scrubbing in on complex procedures such as cardiothoracic, peripheral vascular, and transplant surgeries. The role requires highly skilled clinical expertise and the ability to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
Schedule
- Day shifts from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a minimum of 40 hours per week
- Team rotation for on-call duties: one call per week and one 24-hour weekend call in a four-week rotation
- Start dates: 09/08/2026, 09/22/2026, or 10/06/2026
- No travel required; no float rotation expected
Responsibilities
- Provide advanced cardiac surgical support, including scrubbing in on complex procedures such as cardiothoracic, peripheral vascular, and transplant surgeries
- Demonstrate scrubbing skills in cardiac procedures, including scrubbing hearts
Requirements
- Two years of strong cardiovascular operating room (CVOR) registered nurse (RN) experience
- Experience with large level 1 or 2 trauma centers
- Certifications and educational background as required
- Scrubbing skills in cardiac procedures, evidenced by an OR Scrub Skills Checklist

- Large trauma center experience
- Proficiency in scrubbing for heart surgeries
