Job Details

The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities, prevents illness and injury, and alleviates suffering through diagnosis and treatment of human response and advocacy in care of individuals and families.

Responsibilities

Responsible and accountable for compliance to all standards of practice and professional development in accordance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act, United Health Services policies, ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the Bill of Patient Rights.
Promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.
Assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements and evaluates nursing care in managing a group of patients, serving as a primary nurse and/or accountable nurse.
Educates patient and family in health promotion and disease management using available resources.
Utilizes a working knowledge of pharmacology and safely administers medications according to UHS Hospitals policy.
Shares responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization including staffing, time management, supplies and services.
Complies with all nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and UHS policies.
Participates in and supports the Nursing Shared Governance Model by supporting the Unit Council, participating in improvement initiatives, and contributing to peer review practices.
Engages in professional development, continuing nursing education, and completes all mandatory education requirements.
Integrates nursing research and current evidence into practice.
Provides a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.
Performs duties related to the Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator role when assigned.
Participates in the Clinical Ladder Program as knowledge and expertise develops.

Requirements

  • Six (6) months – three (3) years of Nursing (RN) experience.
  • Experience with intensive cardiac patients including CHF, COPD, end stage heart failure, cardiogenic shock, septic shock, GI bleeds, CRRT, IABP, Impella, normothermia, stroke patients thrombectomy/TNK, ICU overflow.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing required.
  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Current New York State Registered Nurse License required.
  • BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross) required.
  • Unit-specific requirements must be validated prior to candidate submission.
  • Relevant skills certification such as ACLS, PALS, TNCC as required by home unit assigned.
  • Experience with intensive cardiac patients and stroke patients thrombectomy/TNK indicates specialty care in critical and cardiac care units.

Additional Details

  • Required skills include collaboration, communication (verbal & written), judgment/critical thinking, organizational understanding, planning (organizing, time management), problem solving, quality, reliability, safety and risk management.
  • Preferred skills include previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting.
  • Experience with EPIC system.

Schedule Information

Night shift.
12 hours per day.
36 hours per week.
Every 3rd weekend.
