About the role

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic Med/Surg Telemetry unit. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in medical-surgical nursing, with proficiency in telemetry and care management for various patient diagnoses.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care in a fast-paced Med/Surg telemetry environment.
  • Monitor and interpret cardiac dysrhythmias and manage dysrhythmias effectively.
  • Perform remote telemetry monitoring and participate in Rapid Response and Code teams.
  • Conduct assessments and provide interventions for bowel obstructions, colostomy/ileostomy care, and feeding tube management.
  • Administer pre/post hemodialysis care and manage renal failure patients.
  • Facilitate blood product administration and perform central line blood draws.
  • Provide IV therapy, including starting and maintaining IVs, and administering medications such as Heparin and Insulin.
  • Manage chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac) and high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) for respiratory support.
  • Ensure compliance with isolation precautions and proper use of PPE.
  • Deliver wound care, including the use of wound vac systems.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant nursing experience.
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and manage tracheostomy care.
  • Experience in charge nursing is a plus, but not mandatory.
  • Proficiency in electronic documentation systems is preferred.
  • Willingness to float to other units as needed.
  • Capable of working nights, including weekends, with a ratio of 1:6 nurse-to-patient.

Contract details

  • Shifts available: 36 or 48-hour contracts.
  • Orientation program: 24 hours.
  • Contract duration: 13-20 weeks with potential for extension.
  • Availability to work during catastrophic events is required.
  • 7 days maximum of requested time off (RTO).

Patient diagnoses

Candidates should be prepared to care for patients with a range of conditions including: Diabetes, Dementia, COVID-19, Pneumonia, COPD, Sepsis, GI bleed, Anemia, Hip fracture, Congestive heart failure (CHF), Urinary tract infections (UTIs), Various surgical recovery cases, Renal failure, Hypertension, Cellulitis, and Failure to thrive.
