Job Summary

The healthcare organization is seeking a Medical Surgical Floor (MS) registered nurse at a facility located in Morgantown, West Virginia. This role involves providing specialized care on a neurology-focused unit, with responsibilities that include managing patients with neurological disorders, strokes, seizures, and postoperative spinal patients. The position offers an opportunity for experienced nurses to work in a dynamic environment with a focus on neurological patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized nursing care on a neurology-focused medical-surgical unit
  • Manage patients with neurological disorders, strokes, seizures, and postoperative spinal conditions
  • Verify monitor tech readings in Epic (telemetry available; RNs do not need to read strips)
  • Participate in weekend rotations (Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays or Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays) and holiday coverage as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Valid BLS (AHA) certification
  • NIHSS certification in hand at time of submission
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a registered nurse
  • Experience in neuropatient care
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records
  • Recent Epic electronic health record experience
  • Strong overall neuro skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • ACLS certification
  • Strong experience with G-tubes
  • Familiarity with neuro patient management

Schedule

  • Night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
  • Minimum of 48 hours per week
  • Weekend rotations on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, or Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays
  • Night shifts scheduled every other weekend or three weekends per schedule
  • Holiday coverage as needed
  • Orientation includes one shift on the unit

Unit Details

  • 20 beds
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6 for floor patients
  • Nurse aides at ratio of 1:7-10
  • 24/7 respiratory therapy availability
  • RNs not required to have vent management experience (vents managed by RT and physicians)
  • Acute care setting specializing in neurosciences, including stroke, seizures, and surgical neurological patients
