Job Summary

The Medical Surgical Floor registered nurse position is based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This role involves providing care on a unit specialized in medical surgical and neurology patients, including stroke care. The position requires a minimum of 18 months of nursing experience in a hospital or medical center setting, with experience in neurology, oncology, and medication administration.

Job Details

  • Schedule: Days shifts, 36 hours per week, 12-hour shifts

Required Qualifications

  • 18 months of recent nursing experience in med surg, neurology, and oncology

  • Iowa RN license verification

  • BLS (AHA)

  • NIH stroke scale (highly preferred, can be obtained during onboarding)

  • De-escalation certification (SAMA, MAB, MOAB, CPI) preferred

  • Minimum 12 months of hospital/medical center experience

  • EPIC EMR experience

  • Documentation of 24 months of current med/surg or oncology or neurology work history

  • Skills checklist specific to discipline required

  • Drivers license required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience caring for neurology and oncology patients

  • NIH Stroke Scale certification

  • De-escalation certificate such as SAMA, MAB, MOAB, or CPI

  • Professional references from within 24 months

  • Previous experience administering heparin, Cardizem, and amiodarone

  • Experience caring for stroke patients

  • Experience with EPIC EMR

  • MOAB or CPI certification highly preferred

Additional Information

  • The unit is the hospital's stroke unit, with a bed size of 24. Patient ratios are 1:5 for days/evenings and 1:6 for nights.

  • The unit requires float between the med surg and stepdown units.

  • Dress code is navy or black solids.

  • Orientation is scheduled for 8/10 and 8/17.

  • The position involves working 1-2 of the upcoming summer holidays unless the unit is closed.

  • The minimum high-risk experience and certifications are mandatory for consideration.

Pay Package

The pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
