About the Role
Malone Healthcare - Nursing is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Evansville, Indiana.
Responsibilities
- Provide care on a Cardiac Renal Unit MS/Tele unit with high acuity Tele/M/S patients, including cardiac heavy cases (Afib with RVR, Afib, flutter, blocks), heart cath without interventions, CHF, COPD, sepsis, BH/CIWA, post ablations, and dialysis.
- Perform tele/12-lead EKG interpretation (travelers are required to pass tele tests).
- Initiate and titrate drips including antiarrhythmics, Heparin, amino, and stable drips (heparin, lasix, protonix).
- Manage PIV insertion, chest tube/indwelling drains, CBI, antidysrhythmic medications (cardizem, tikosyn dosing, amio), and nephrostomy tubes.
- Float first within skillset; 2-hour notice given for cross-campus float, mid-shift float within same campus (cross-campus mid-shift float unlikely but possible).
- Work 12-hour day shifts (6:30-7).
- May be required to precept students and new hires at this teaching hospital.
Requirements
- Current active compact license.
- AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS certifications (must be attached upon submittal).
- Minimum 2 years of strong Cardiac/Tele experience.
- Minimum 1 travel assignment completed.
- Trauma level II experience required.
- Recent EPIC charting experience required (will be required to do a checkoff class).
- Must have strong assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Hard worker, resilient, manages change well, social candidates preferred.
- No local candidates (40-mile radius rule).
Unit Information
- 41 beds.
- Day shift ratio: 1:4-5; Night shift ratio: 1:5-7.
- Charge nurse rarely takes patients on days but takes an assignment on night shift.
- Unit strengths: Excellent retention and experience; manager has been over the unit for 15+ years and has built a strong team.
- Seeking contracts due to upcoming FMLA for multiple staff.
- Scrubs: No competing health systems or agency logos.
- 3 call-ins can result in termination.
Schedule
- Start date: 08/10/2026.
- Duration: 19 weeks.
- Bi-weekly orientation.
- Guaranteed hours: 36 (will accept 48 upon request).
- Shift: 12 hours, days.
- Weekend requirement: Three weekends out of every six-week schedule.
- Holiday requirement: Every other holiday.
