Malone Healthcare - Nursing is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Weirton, West Virginia.

Requirements

Unit Overview

  • Beds: 48
  • Patient Ratios: Days: 1:5–7, Nights: 1:6–8

Required Certifications

  • BLS
  • Active RN License

Common Patient Population

  • Pneumonia
  • Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)
  • Altered Mental Status (AMS)
  • Gastrointestinal (GI) Bleeds
  • Alcohol Withdrawal
  • Falls
  • Generalized Weakness

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of Med-Surg experience
  • First-time travelers are welcome

Charge Nurse Day Shift

  • Average Ratio: 1:10–12 patients (may increase based on census)

Charge Nurse Night Shift

  • If two Charge Nurses are scheduled, they may take assignments.
  • If only one Charge Nurse is scheduled, they typically do not carry a patient assignment.

Patients Care Technicians (PCTs)

  • Average Ratio: 1:10–12 patients (may increase based on census)

Responsibilities

  • Vital signs
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • EKGs
  • Applying telemetry monitors
  • Bathing
  • Feeding
  • Toileting
  • Turning and repositioning patients
  • Respiratory Support
  • Respiratory Therapy manages: BiPAP, CPAP, High-flow oxygen, Breathing treatments, Inhalers, ABGs
  • RNs are generally responsible for monitoring patients while RT manages respiratory equipment and treatments.
  • Telemetry Centralized Monitor Technician located on Level 5 monitors telemetry.
  • Monitor Tech notifies nursing staff of rhythm changes.
  • RNs are not required to independently interpret telemetry strips.
  • Scheduling Shift Times: RN: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM / 7:00 PM – 7:00 PM, CNA/PCT: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM / 6:00 PM – 6:00 PM
  • Scheduling Notes: No self-scheduling, No guaranteed block scheduling, Schedule is created by the manager, Requested Time Off (RTO) is considered when possible
  • Travelers are expected to remain flexible and help cover staffing needs, Rotating staff typically work: Two weeks on days, Two weeks on nights, No switching between day and night shifts within the same week, Weekends: Every other weekend, Holidays: Travelers may be included in the RN holiday rotation, PCTs work holidays only if they fall on their scheduled shifts, Call Requirement: None, Floating: Travelers participate in the facility's float rotation and may float to: Medical-Surgical, Med-Surg/Telemetry, Intermediate Care (IMC) for lower-acuity patients
