About the role
The Medical Surgical Float Position in Fargo, North Dakota involves providing care within a level 2 or higher trauma center. This role demands flexibility to float across multiple med-surg units on various campuses, including overflow and status patient units. The position is suitable for experienced registered nurses with a focus on fast-paced hospital environments and diverse patient populations.
Responsibilities
- Performing head-to-toe assessments
- Medication administration by various routes
- Care plan documentation
- Wound, line, and drain care utilizing equipment such as Alaris IV pumps and Philips vitals machines
Requirements
- Active North Dakota RN license or Compact state License
- Minimum of 1 year recent Medical Surgical experience in a busy large hospital (200+ beds)
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification
- EPIC electronic medical record experience
- Experience working in a level 2 or higher trauma center
- Previous float pool experience preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with Resource Pool/Float Pool
- Experience in oncology, trauma, cardiac, neuro, medical behavioral, or innovations units
Schedule
- 13 weeks duration starting from 08/31/2026
- 36 hours per week
- 12-hour night shifts
- Every other weekend and holiday
Training includes orientation shifts on Broadway and SMCF med-surg units, along with campus tours. The unit ranges from 24 to 47 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios from 1:4-5 during day shifts and 1:5-6 during night shifts. Nurses are required to float between units within the med-surg cluster, including overflow and critical care units as scheduled.

Pay package is based on 12-hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
