About the role
The Stroke Telemetry Unit is a high‑acuity, fast‑paced medical‑surgical environment specializing in the care of acute stroke and complex telemetry patients. This 34‑bed unit delivers evidence‑based, protocol‑driven care with a strong focus on patient safety, rapid intervention, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Perform and document frequent neurological assessments, including the NIH Stroke Scale.
- Monitor and interpret telemetry rhythms, responding to changes in real time.
- Ensure compliance with stroke core measures, including dysphagia screening, education, and care plans.
- Administer medications using Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) standards, with an emphasis on safety and accuracy.
- Coordinate care with an interdisciplinary team, including providers, therapy, and case management.
- Manage admissions, discharges, and patient flow in a high‑turnover environment.
- Maintain a constant focus on falls prevention, skin integrity, and overall patient safety.
Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
- Completion of 8 hours of stroke‑specific training.
