Responsibilities

• Performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit specific to the scope of service.
• Implements procedures and theories related to the Med Surg specialty.
• Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care to assure integration of information for the healthcare team.
• Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care based on patient and family needs.
• Implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
• Modifies the plan of care based on continuous evaluation.
• Ensures patient and employee safety by reporting and correcting safety hazards and incidents.
• Communicates directly with team members to resolve issues and provide constructive feedback.
• Identifies learning needs and takes initiative to expand knowledge base.
• Fulfills all departmental competency requirements.

Department Specific Job Functions

• Provides post-operative care for complex surgical patients.
• Assesses and intervenes to ensure positive outcomes during the post-operative phase.
• Monitors and cares for newly tracheostomized patients.
• Assesses and maintains wounds requiring wound vacs and other complex wound management.
• Assesses, manages, and educates patients and families on new ostomies.
• Collaborates with general surgical residency and OMFS residency services.

Requirements

• Minimum three (3) years of relevant nursing experience.
• Illinois state RN License in good standing.
• BLS certification (American Heart Association).

Pay

Estimated pay package is based on 12-hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax-free stipend amount to be determined. Bill rates can change frequently and without notice. Exact pay package may vary based on guaranteed hours, distance traveled, and customizations available for travelers.
