About the role

Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) position in a healthcare facility located in Grand Island, Nebraska. The role involves providing high-quality obstetric, postpartum, and antepartum care on a 12-hour night shift schedule. The RN will work in a designated labor and delivery unit following AWHONN (American Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses) guidelines, managing various diagnoses including pregnancy with hypertension and diabetes, and titrating medications such as Pitocin and Mag.

Responsibilities

• Provide care for obstetrics, postpartum, antepartum, and post-surgical GYN patients.
• Titrate drips such as Pitocin and Mag.
• Read and interpret electrocardiogram strips.
• Troubleshoot equipment including Vents, Cpap, BiPap, and High Flow devices.
• Adhere to AWHONN guidelines and facility policies, including a fingernail policy prohibiting artificial nails.
• Follow a patient ratio of 1:3 or 1:1 for laboring patients in a unit with 15 LDRP beds and 15 postpartum beds.
• Work under the supervision of a charge nurse who may also take patient assignments.

Requirements

• Valid RN license.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
• Minimum of 3 years of labor and delivery experience.
• Pass a skills exam during orientation with an emphasis on clinical competence.

Floating is rare and limited to critical staffing needs only.

Schedule

• 12-hour night shifts, with a minimum of 48 hours per week.
• Orientation includes one week of classroom training followed by 2-3 shifts on the floor.
• RTO (Return to Office) requests must be made upfront (7 or fewer days per 13-week contract). Additional requests are unlikely to be approved after the initial RTO.
