About the Role
This is a 13-week assignment with night shifts (18:30 - 07:00) on a 4x12-hour schedule. The facility is an acute care hospital with 171 beds, using Epic as its charting system.
Responsibilities & Skills
- Administration of blood & blood products
- Antihypertensives and antihypertensive management
- Assist with high-risk delivery and sterile speculum exams (effacement, dilation, station, presentation)
- Cesarean section and circulating for C-sections
- Hemorrhage/shock management and postpartum hemorrhage care
- High-risk antepartum and labor & delivery support
- Isolation precautions/PPE and infection control
- Magnesium sulfate therapy and seizure management
- Amnioinfusion and oxytocin (Pitocin) administration
- Assist with vaginal delivery, forceps/vacuum extraction, and episiotomy/incisional care
- Drawing venous blood and starting/maintaining IVs
- Epidural anesthesia and general anesthesia support
- Facility births (100-200 per month) and multiple births management
- Foley catheter insertion/management
- Fundus, lochia, and perineum care
- Insulin drips and terbutaline administration
- Newborn assessment, hypoglycemia management, and thermoregulation
- Non-stress tests (NST) and oxytocin challenge tests (OCT)
- Pain assessment and management, including PCA (IV) use
- Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Reflex checks, edema assessment, and clonus evaluation
- Use of external, internal, and intrauterine fetal monitoring (EFM, IFM, IUPC)
- Triage of obstetrical patients and wound assessment/care
- Vaccine administration and sterile vaginal exams
- Use of infusion pumps, drips, and IV monitoring
Requirements
- 1 year of experience as a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
- Active ACLS, BLS, NRP certifications
- AWHONN Beginner or Intermediate certification
- FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring) certification
- Active LA state license or Compact License
Patient Ratios
- Nights: 2 patients per nurse
- Weekends: 2 patients per nurse
Pay
Weekly pay ranges from $2,855 to $3,047, including taxable wages and tax-free expense reimbursements.
