About the Role
Modern Healthcare Solutions is seeking a travel nurse RN Labor and Delivery for a travel nursing job in Lamar, Colorado. This role involves delivering direct patient care within the scope of practice, specifically providing care to women during labor, delivery, and the postpartum period, as well as caring for newborns. The position ensures comprehensive maternal care throughout the childbirth continuum.
Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments and monitor the labor process
- Prepare for C-sections, inductions, and ensure proper documentation of nursing care
- Administer care during labor, post-delivery, and postpartum, including infant care and patient education
- Prepare the delivery room and provide emotional support to patients
- Coordinate patient transfers when necessary
- Administer IV medications and adhere to infection control practices and departmental policies
- Demonstrate knowledge and/or interest in obstetrics and related equipment
Accountability
The RN will report directly to the Birth Center Manager.
Special Demands
Physical demands include long periods of standing and walking as well as heavy lifting. The role may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, unpleasant sights, smells, and potential infectious diseases.
Qualifications
- Education: RN graduate with current licensure in Colorado; must possess current CPR certification. Neonatal Resuscitation Certification and ACLS certification required within one year of employment.
- Experience: A minimum of 4 years of experience in obstetric care is preferred. A minimum of 7 years of professional nursing experience is required for this role.
- Skills: Knowledge of or willingness to learn labor, delivery, postpartum, and nursing care essentials. Understanding of sterile technique and infection control principles. Proficient in technical aspects of mother/infant care. Able to perform effectively in high-stress situations. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals.
Working Environment
This is a full-time position requiring 36 hours per week, with shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Shift rotation and area assignments may occur depending on staffing needs and patient census. Holiday coverage is also required.
