About the role
Emergency Room (ER) Nurse position providing high-quality emergency care in a fast-paced environment within a designated zone around a metropolitan area. The role requires flexibility to float within specific facilities and zones, handling diverse patient cases, and adhering to safety and clinical protocols.
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts, days
- Minimum of 36 hours per week
- Scheduled 4 to 6 weeks in advance, with options for assigned weeks at specific facilities or just-in-time scheduling
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality emergency care in a fast-paced environment
- Float within Zone 3, covering facilities around Denver city center, including OrthoColorado Hospital, Longmont United Hospital, St. Anthony Hospital, St. Anthony North Hospital, and 84th Ave ER
- Read and interpret tele monitors
- Perform point-of-care testing as part of patient care
- Troubleshoot equipment such as vents, Cpap, BiPap, and high flow devices (not primarily responsible for operating equipment unless required)
- Adhere to safety and clinical protocols
- Be flexible to fill operational needs as shifts are made out by leadership
Requirements
- Valid nursing license
- Minimum of 2 years of emergency department experience
- Certifications: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS - American Heart Association), Basic Life Support (BLS - American Heart Association), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS - American Heart Association), National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- Must float within Zone 3, spanning multiple hospitals and emergency departments
- Cannot miss more than 3 shifts in a 13-week contract; must submit a 2-week notice to avoid a back-out penalty fee
- Dress code: Navy Blue scrubs
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with common drip medications and standard ER medications
Work Environment
- No home base facility; flexible within designated zone
- No in-house security, but ERs are equipped to handle high patient volumes (40 to 168 patients daily, depending on location)
- Team includes charge nurses, nurse aides, emergency medical technicians, and other supporting staff (charge nurse also takes assignments)
- Emergency Department features separate triage and holding areas, with some locations having dedicated psych/seclusion rooms
