About the role

The Nursing Resource Team (NRT) is a hospital-wide float department that serves the ER, ICU, PCU, Med Surg, and Behavioral Health (Adult Acute, Youth Acute, Addiction Recovery) service lines. This position is responsible for caring for a wide range of patient populations as a member of the NRT, maintaining a high level of adaptability and understanding in each unit.

Responsibilities

  • Cares for a wide range of patient populations as a member of the NRT, maintaining a high level of adaptability and understanding in each unit.
  • Works in a variety of care areas hospital wide, including medical-surgical, behavioral health, addiction recovery units, progressive care, the emergency department, and critical care units.
  • Promotes optimal health, well-being and safety through use of the nursing process and in accordance with patient care standards, and the Idaho Nurse Practice Act.
  • Engages fully within nursing and inter-professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making to achieve quality patient care.
  • Uses information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision-making.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a nationally accredited Nursing program (BSN highly preferred)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in all of the following (can be congruent, but still need the minimum number of years of experience in each unit and need listed on resume): ER, ICU, PCU, Med Surg, and Behavioral Health/Psych (adult acute, youth acute, addiction recovery)
  • Experience with cardiac drips
  • Experience with non-invasive ventilation

Qualifications

  • State of ID (or compact) RN license
  • AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, NIHSS is preferred
  • Restraint C (during Kootenai Essentials)
  • MOAB-8-hour class KBH/YA (will be covered in general onboarding)
  • Boundaries 1-hour module (will be covered in general onboarding)
  • Dept. of Health & Welfare Background Fingerprinting is required

Floating

NRT float RNs and traveler RNs have a consistent schedule and know when they work; the unit RNs will receive a message 2 hours prior to their shift, telling them on which unit they are assigned. NRT can float mid-shift, if needed.

Bed size/number of rooms

- 21-35 beds, depending upon the unit in which they are working

Nurse to patient ratio

  • ICU: 1:1-2
  • Med/Surg & ED boarded Med/Surg: 1:5-6
  • PCU: 1:3-4
  • Behavioral Health (Adult/Youth Acute, Addiction Recovery): 1:5-6 days / 1:10 overnights
