About the role

The Registered Nurse holds shift accountability for providing care to Emergency Room patients by utilizing the Nursing Process in accordance with the state Nurse Practice Act and Hospital policy and procedures. The registered nurse demonstrates critical thinking skills, scientific judgement, and leadership in the anticipation and planning for safe delivery of care of the patient in the Emergency Department; maintains clinical competencies through continuing education; delegates patient care priorities commensurate with the education and experience of the staff available; provides direction and supervision of assigned personnel delivering patient care.

Scope of role: Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Responsible for directing and coordinating all nursing care based on established clinical nursing practices. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in the Emergency Department using the Nursing Process.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking, scientific judgement, and leadership in planning and delivering care.
  • Maintain clinical competencies through continuing education.
  • Delegate patient care priorities based on staff education and experience.
  • Supervise and direct assigned personnel delivering patient care.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to achieve desired patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience as an RN in an Emergency Department.
  • At least 2 previous travel assignments completed successfully.
  • Active ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications.
  • ESI level 5 training required.
  • TNCC preferred.
  • Cerner experience preferred.

Unit Details

  • Beds in unit: 29 plus 8 hallways.
  • Patient ratios: 1:4.
  • No call required.
  • No floating required.
  • Scrub color: Navy.
  • EMR: Cerner.
  • RTO blackout dates or required holidays: one major and one minor holiday possible.
  • Max RTO: None as long as FTE and weekend requirements are met.
  • 48-hour weekly guarantees are NOT available.
  • Blocked scheduling: Will do best to make days as close/blocked as possible while meeting weekend requirements but cannot guarantee.
