About the Role
The Driver Trainer (and Coach) is responsible for delivering a world‑class onboarding experience for new Vehicle Transporters, providing both classroom and hands‑on training on trailer operation, safe vehicle loading, and Carvana logistics policies. The role also includes ongoing education, performance evaluations, and collaboration with Logistics Managers to ensure a smooth transition from training to on‑the‑job duties.
Responsibilities
- Provide a comprehensive two‑week onboarding program for new vehicle transporters.
- Train new hires on maneuvering, maintaining, and operating car trailers and related logistics equipment.
- Teach safe loading techniques for 9‑car haulers to prevent vehicle damage.
- Deliver both classroom instruction and hands‑on training.
- Coach, mentor, and give feedback to new hires.
- Utilize skills matrices, evaluation checklists, and assessments to ensure knowledge transfer.
- Collaborate with multiple Logistics Managers to facilitate a smooth transition from training to field work.
- Support additional logistics projects as needed.
- Travel up to 50 % of the time (potentially more based on business needs).
Physical Demands
- Lift up to 60 lb independently; frequent lifting from knee to shoulder height.
- Carry and transport up to 60 lb up to 20 ft.
- Stand for extended periods with frequent stretching, reaching, walking, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
- Work in environments that may be cold, hot, noisy, wet, and may contain fumes or odors from vehicle maintenance.
- Bend, kneel, twist, squat, stand, and climb as required to secure loads.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (desirable).
- System and on‑the‑job training experience preferred.
- CDL Class A with a clean driving record.
- Smith Systems training and/or certification preferred or willingness to become certified.
- At least two years of CDL driving experience; vehicle hauling experience preferred.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and logistics systems.
- Maintain a valid DOT medical card.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize effectively, and develop individuals and teams.
- Must be 21 years or older.
Pay
Full‑time salary position offering $75,000 – $80,000 annually.
