A CT Technologist (CT Tech) operates computed tomography (CT) scanners to perform diagnostic imaging procedures for patients. The CT Tech ensures patient comfort and safety, prepares the imaging equipment, and assists the healthcare team in obtaining diagnostic information.

Responsibilities

• Patient Preparation and Communication:
  • Prepare patients for CT scans by explaining the procedure, answering questions, and ensuring comfort.
  • Verify patient information, including medical history, allergies, and prior imaging, to ensure accurate diagnosis and appropriate imaging protocols.
  • Position patients properly on the CT table to obtain necessary images, ensuring safety and comfort.
  • Instruct patients on how to hold their breath or remain still during scans.
• Operation of CT Equipment:
  • Operate and calibrate the CT scanner, adjusting settings such as radiation dose, slice thickness, and imaging protocols.
  • Administer contrast agents or dye injections (under physician or radiologist guidance) to enhance image clarity.
  • Monitor equipment during imaging to ensure high-quality images and prevent errors.
• Image Quality and Review:
  • Review CT images for quality, ensuring all required areas are captured and meet diagnostic standards.
  • Work closely with radiologists to ensure images support diagnosis.
  • Repeat or adjust scans as necessary to improve image quality or coverage.
• Patient Safety and Comfort:
  • Follow safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure, using the lowest effective dose and shielding where appropriate.
  • Maintain a sterile, clean environment in the CT room, sanitizing equipment between patients.
  • Ensure proper patient positioning to prevent injury or discomfort, especially for vulnerable patients.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions to contrast agents and alert healthcare providers if necessary.
• Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work with physicians, radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to determine appropriate imaging procedures.
  • Document patient information, scan parameters, contrast media used, and complications in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Participate in patient care planning for complex cases.
• Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
  • Maintain, clean, and perform basic troubleshooting on CT scanners and associated equipment.
  • Perform routine inspections and calibration, alerting maintenance staff to malfunctions.
  • Keep accurate logs of equipment use, maintenance, and repairs.
• Radiation Safety and Compliance:
  • Follow radiation safety protocols to protect patients and staff, including shielding and dosage guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, safety standards, and Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes related to radiation safety, patient privacy, and procedural guidelines.
• Documentation and Record Keeping:
  • Accurately document imaging procedures, patient information, and adverse events.
  • Ensure documentation complies with hospital policies, medical record-keeping regulations, and industry standards.
  • Assist with maintaining patient flow by providing quick turnaround times for imaging results.
• Patient Education and Support:
  • Provide education on aftercare following contrast injections, potential side effects, and follow-up procedures.
  • Address patient concerns about radiation exposure or claustrophobia, offering support as needed.
  • Maintain patient privacy and dignity throughout the imaging process.
• Professional Development and Training:
  • Participate in continuing education to stay current with advancements in CT imaging technology and protocols.
  • Attend training sessions and seminars on new imaging techniques or equipment.
  • Maintain professional certification and licensure, including continuing education requirements.

Schedule

• 40 hours per week
• 10-hour night shifts

Pay

Pay package is based on 10-hour shifts and 40 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
