About the role

We are seeking a professional, detail-oriented, and service-focused Travel Consultant II to join the U.S. Military and Government travel team. This role supports federal-client travelers by providing high-quality business travel planning, booking, trip support, and issue resolution before, during, and after travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality travel planning and booking support for U.S. military, government, and federal-client travelers.
  • Arrange and book domestic and international business travel, including air, hotel, car rental, rail, and related travel services.
  • Use Sabre, GDS systems, online booking tools, travel platforms, and client systems to research, reserve, modify, and ticket travel.
  • Assist travelers before, during, and after trips with itinerary questions, changes, cancellations, disruptions, delays, rebooking needs, and general support.
  • Ensure all bookings comply with applicable travel policies, government regulations, contract requirements, fare rules, and client-specific procedures.
  • Review traveler profiles, preferences, authorizations, travel documents, and policy requirements before completing reservations.
  • Provide accurate fare options, routing information, schedule details, ticketing requirements, and travel guidance.
  • Resolve travel-related issues, including schedule changes, missed connections, cancellations, ticketing errors, hotel problems, rental car issues, and urgent itinerary changes.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with travelers, travel arrangers, vendors, airlines, hotels, car rental companies, and internal teams.
  • Document reservations, changes, traveler interactions, approvals, exceptions, and service actions in the appropriate systems.
  • Support emergency and time-sensitive travel needs while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
  • Identify and escalate complex issues, policy exceptions, service concerns, or traveler complaints when appropriate.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of government travel rules, client policies, airline procedures, fare regulations, and travel industry changes.
  • Collaborate with the broader travel team to improve service delivery, workflow consistency, traveler satisfaction, and operational efficiency.
  • Help maintain a positive traveler experience through responsive service, problem-solving, and accurate information.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience as a travel consultant, corporate travel agent, government travel counselor, reservation specialist, or similar travel support role.
  • Experience booking air, hotel, car rental, rail, or business travel arrangements.
  • Working knowledge of Sabre or another Global Distribution System.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to support travelers professionally by phone, email, chat, or travel systems.
  • Ability to interpret and follow travel policies, fare rules, booking procedures, and client requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail when creating, modifying, ticketing, and documenting travel reservations.
  • Ability to manage multiple traveler requests, deadlines, itinerary changes, and service issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to resolve travel disruptions or escalate issues appropriately.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a broader travel service team.
  • Comfortable using travel technology, online booking tools, customer service platforms, and computer systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting U.S. military, federal government, defense, public-sector, or contract travel programs.
  • Familiarity with government travel regulations, federal travel policies, City Pair fares, per diem rules, travel authorizations, or agency-specific travel requirements.
  • Strong Sabre experience, including creating and modifying PNRs, pricing, ticketing, exchanges, refunds, queues, and quality-control processes.
  • Experience handling complex itineraries, urgent travel changes, after-hours support, or high-touch traveler care.
  • Experience working in a travel management company, government travel office, corporate travel center, or call center environment.
  • Knowledge of airline contracts, fare construction, ticketing rules, exchanges, cancellations, and travel disruption handling.
  • Experience supporting domestic and international travel.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules depending on operational needs.

Work Environment

This role is part of a U.S. Military and Government travel team and may be performed in a travel service center, office, remote, or hybrid environment depending on company and contract requirements. The Travel Consultant II will work with travelers, travel arrangers, vendors, internal teams, and client contacts in a service-focused setting. The position may involve high call or request volume, urgent travel changes, policy-driven booking requirements, and time-sensitive problem resolution. The successful candidate should be comfortable working with travel systems throughout the day and maintaining professionalism during stressful or fast-changing situations.
