Trauma Registrar Senior
About the role
The Trauma Registrar Senior is responsible for the collection, entry, and maintenance of data for the Trauma Center as required by the American College of Surgeons and the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services. The registrar will code each injury-related admission using the ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and Abbreviated Injury Scaling systems. This data, along with other state and nationally required data elements, will be entered into the computerized trauma registry while maintaining strict confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Coding each injury-related admission using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and Abbreviated Injury Scaling systems
- Maintaining the computerized trauma registry, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality
- Producing and analyzing reports to support internal performance improvement and research
- Verifying data and submitting to state and national benchmarking programs
- Serving as a resource for the Trauma Registrar I and the entire trauma program
- Ensuring accurate submissions in a timely manner
- Compiling, preparing, and presenting requirements for ACS and state trauma level 1 verification reviews
- Running complex reports for internal and external requests for research and performance improvement
- Training new employees and overseeing monthly registrar education
- Accurately identifying all patients for inclusion into the trauma registry, utilizing multiple sources for complete patient identification
- Fulfilling the requirements of the Virginia Trauma Designation process
- Entering a limited data set for all patients into the trauma program's Admit List, a tool utilized by all members of the trauma program
- Maintaining the EPIC Trauma Patient List, which identifies trauma patients requiring Brief Alcohol Intervention
- Absorbing, entering, and validating all hospital, state, and nationally required data elements into the computerized trauma registry
- Assigning E-codes, diagnostic, and procedure codes (ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, Abbreviated Injury Scale)
- Abstracting, entering, and validating all hospital, state, and nationally required data elements into the computerized trauma registry
- Completing at least 8 hours of trauma registrar-related continuing education per year
Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Experience: 3+ years of relevant experience required
- Licensure: None
Preferred Requirements
- Education: College-level course work in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology or equivalent experience in allied health field, trauma
- Experience: 2 years of experience as a trauma registrar, 2 years healthcare and medical record experience, 2 years relevant experience performing data analysis, extraction, and systems interface
- Licenses/Certifications: AAAM AIS 2015 Certification, ICD-10 Trauma Injury Coding Certification required every 5 years, Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) or Certified Abbreviated Injury Scaling Specialist (CAISS) preferred - CAISS must be obtained within 2 years of hire
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this role is $20.28 - $40.57 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
