About the role
The Trauma Center is seeking a Registrar responsible for collecting, entering, maintaining, and reporting data for the Trauma Center as required by appropriate regulatory agencies. This position utilizes analytical, cognitive, and leadership skills to utilize collected trauma data for injury research, epidemiology, prevention initiatives, and performance improvement.
Responsibilities
- Identifies trauma patients that meet inclusion criteria for the trauma registry from daily logs of the emergency department, operating room, and hospital admissions.
- Abstracts accurate information for the Trauma Registry in a timely manner from the trauma patient medical record.
- Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data from all available patient information systems.
- Reconciles missing or conflicting data and coordinates with outside agencies to obtain medical records when appropriate.
- Collections, enters, and submits data to the state as required.
- Generates a monthly dashboard, monthly routine reports, annual reports, and responds to special requests for statistical information.
- Participates as an integral member of the Trauma Committee.
- Attends and participates in the regional and state trauma meetings and completes registry specific training as available.
- Participates in professional development to assure skills and knowledge of trauma data information.
- Affords primary responsibility for accurate and concurrent trauma registry data.
- Reviews and validates trauma registry data regularly.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Obtain Certified Trauma Registrar Certification through the American Trauma Society.
- Preferred: Obtain Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
- One (1) year Trauma Registry or Health Information Management experience.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Certified Trauma Registrar Certification through the American Trauma Society.
- Preferred: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
- One (1) year Trauma Registry or Health Information Management experience.
Skills
- Knowledge of medical record content, medical terminology, coding, and anatomy and physiology.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
