Shift Description
Affords assistance in promoting optimal care to the injured patient through clinical activities, professional and public education, injury prevention, and performance improvement and patient safety. The Program Coordinator acts as a resource person to all patient care areas regarding nursing care as related to the trauma patient. Functions as a liaison for trauma care by maintaining effective lines of communication with all concerned parties.
Position Requirements
- Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current, active licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Georgia.
- Education: Graduation from an NLM accredited school of nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years nursing experience with at least 2-3 years in trauma, critical care, or emergency nursing. Previous trauma center designation and reverification experience desired in ideal applicants.
- Special Qualifications: Participates in professional state organizations as required for trauma designation. Maintains TNCC, PALS or ENPC, and ACLS.
Essential Functions
- Program Administration & Regulatory Compliance: Accreditation - Prepares the trauma program for ACS verification visits and state department of health designation surveys. Leadership - Manages trauma services personnel, including registrars, performance improvement (PI) coordinators, and outreach staff. Policy Development - Collaborates with hospital leadership to draft, deploy, and maintain trauma-specific protocols and guidelines. Budgeting - Oversees the trauma program’s financial resources, staffing plans, and operational needs. Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) Case Review - Evaluates trauma cases concurrently and retrospectively to ensure care adheres to national ACS and state standards. Event Management - Identifies bottleneck processes, adverse events, or system issues, and establishes corrective action plans to improve clinical outcomes. Data Utilization - Monitors TQIP (Trauma Quality Improvement Program) reports to identify trends and drive clinical improvements at both the system and provider levels. Trauma Registry and Data Management - Registry Oversight - Manages the Trauma Registry to ensure timely, accurate collection and reporting of data. Data Reporting - Synthesizes registry data for state/national databases and internal program profiling.
- Clinical Activities and Coordination: Team Resource - Attends trauma activations to serve as a high-level resource and enhance trauma team performance. Multidisciplinary Collaboration - Rounds on trauma units and participates in multidisciplinary rounds to ensure resources are available for optimal patient care.
- Education, Outreach, and Injury Prevention: Community Education - Coordinates community-based injury prevention programs and public outreach efforts. Professional Education - Facilitates ongoing trauma-specific clinical training (such as TNCC, ATLS, and ATCN) for nursing and ancillary staff.
