About the Role

The Trauma Performance Improvement Specialist will work under the direction of the Trauma Coordinator and Trauma Medical Director, acting as a key resource for the trauma service line. This role is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting trauma quality and performance improvement data from medical records and other sources. The specialist ensures compliance with data management and performance improvement requirements for a Level II trauma center, playing a critical role in attaining and maintaining this designation. This is not a patient care position.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct collection, surveillance, data entry, analysis, and reporting of trauma quality and performance improvement information.
  • Ensure data collection, management, analysis, and performance improvement requirements are met for a Level II trauma center.
  • Support attainment and maintenance of Level II trauma center designation and verification.
  • Work independently and collaboratively on projects of moderate complexity with limited supervision.
  • Support large projects and regulatory reviews, which may require evening and/or weekend hours.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Five years of experience in Healthcare, Emergency Services, Critical Care, or Critical Care transport is required.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Department of Health Professions or a compact state is required.
  • Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) or Certified Abbreviated Injury Scaling Specialist (CAISS) is preferred.

Skills

  • Completion of TOPIC (Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course) within 1 year of hire, if not already obtained.
  • Completion of AIS (Abbreviated Injury Scaling) Course and Trauma ICD 10 course within 2 years of hire.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel spreadsheets.
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management, critical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment with changing priorities and demands.
