Responsibilities

  • Completes patient transports within set departmental standards.
  • Performs duties in the Equipment Processing Distribution Department, including picking up soiled equipment, cleaning equipment per standards, and delivering equipment to user areas.
  • Ensures all equipment is functional, in good working order, and has current Clinical Engineering (CE) tags; delivers non-functional equipment to the CE department.
  • Ensures equipment requiring battery charging is charged during storage.
  • Advises Patient Care Services when transporting patients from the unit and for all discharges.
  • Performs accurate and timely documentation of patient movements when leaving and returning patients to units.
  • Notifies the responsible nurse prior to any transports; obtains Ticket to Ride and transports with the patient.
  • Ensures all assigned equipment is kept clean and well maintained.
  • Transports patients or guests safely using appropriate equipment, lift techniques, and departmental safety measures.
  • Cleans and sanitizes all equipment used in patient transport; adheres to PPE policies and infection control guidelines.
  • Provides an overview of the patient room to the patient and/or family upon admission, including explanations of room contents, bed controls, and room service.
  • Assists patient care areas with lifts requiring two or more people; utilizes hospital lift devices, including maxi slides.
  • Monitors and delivers transport equipment such as wheelchairs to entrances and nursing units to maintain PAR levels.
  • Responds to code procedures as determined by hospital location.
  • Assists in the Cadence Health Fall Prevention initiative by ensuring proper patient positioning, bed rails, accessibility of items, and reconnecting bed alarms.
  • Communicates effectively with the call center dispatch regarding transport delays or cancellations; reports transport completion immediately.
  • May assist with removing trash and linen from patient rooms upon discharge.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR – Basic Life Support certification within 90 days of hire.

Pay

Sign-on bonus eligibility may apply (internal employees and rehires who left Northwestern Medicine within one year are not eligible, with exceptions for new graduate internal employees).

Schedule

  • Part-time: 40 hours every two weeks.
  • Shift: Evenings with rotating weekends and holidays.

Northwestern Medicine conducts a background check, including criminal history, for newly hired team members and internal transfers, following all local, state, and federal laws, including the Illinois Health Care Worker Background Check Act.
