Responsibilities
- Transport patients, visitors and patient related items throughout the Mayo Clinic campus in a safe and efficient manner.
- Frequent interaction with nurses, radiology techs, desk staff, door attendants and others.
- Receive primary work assignments via an iPhone and pager.
- Function independently and as a team member with minimal supervision or direction.
- Possess knowledge with the use of a smart phone.
- Proper input and management of transport requests may be required via computers and/or working with dispatch staff via telephone.
- Stand and/or walk 10-12 miles per 8-hour shift and frequently push/pull patients up to 200 pounds and occasionally up to or exceeding 350 pounds.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the safe operation of multiple types of motorized patient transport equipment which require exceptional fine motor skills.
- Disinfect equipment after each patient use and request maintenance as needed through the appropriate channels.
- Perform wheelchair roundups to General Service storage locations or designated floors.
- Transport patients who require the use of oxygen, intravenous pumps, wound vacs and/or other special equipment, as well as assist patients in and out of wheelchairs/stretchers and perform correct patient identification by utilizing two patient identifiers (name and date of birth).
- Confirm with staff and adhere to the medical isolation precautions and protocols.
- Provide detailed verbal communication to appropriate staff during the drop off and pick up of patients in the inpatient setting.
- Work days, evenings, overnights, holidays, and weekends with rotating days off.
- Attend meetings outside of their normal work schedule and/or assist in the training of new employees.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous customer service experience required.
- Previous hospital, clinical or patient care experience preferred.
- Able to work independently and in a group setting with minimal supervision.
- Exceptional verbal communication skills as well as telephone and human relation skills to interact with patients, guests and staff.
- Ability to adapt to unpredictable and stressful situations, while maintaining a calm and pleasant demeanor.
- Strong problem-solving skills are necessary.
- Exceptional initiative and a proven ability to quickly respond to customer needs in a fast-paced work environment.
- Basic computer skills are required, with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Read, write, speak and understand English.
