McDowell Center for Children, a UHS facility, is a 28-bed residential treatment center in Dyersburg, Tennessee, serving adolescent males with mental health, behavioral, and/or substance abuse issues. The outpatient facility supports males and females ages 12–17, providing 24-hour care through licensed therapists, psychiatrists, nurses, and technicians.
About the role
The Mental Health Tech/Transportator coordinates, controls, and documents all movement, activity, and services of adolescents in their care during transport. They maintain safety and security while on duty and communicate effectively with the next shift regarding patient status.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and document all movement, activity, and services of adolescents during transport.
- Maintain safety and security of the environment while on duty.
- Communicate patient status effectively to the next shift.
Requirements
- High School Diploma (required).
- One-year experience working with a psychiatric resident population (preferred).
- Valid Tennessee driver license and good driving record.
- Knowledge of psychiatric group processes, therapeutic relationships, age-specific growth and development, limit setting, behavior management, crisis management with aggressive behaviors, and CPR training.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to psychiatric residents who may exhibit violent or aggressive behavior.
- Potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids, and other hazardous waste.
- General residential treatment center environment on-site; typical traffic conditions during transport duties.
