Transportation Technician IV
Responsibilities
- Ensure all materials, procedures, and safety rules comply with the latest NCDOT standards.
- Sample and test construction materials to ensure they meet the quality requirements of the project specifications.
- Record daily construction inspection notes for CEI document management.
- Interact and communicate effectively with colleagues and client representatives.
- Attend meetings and interact with clients and third-party personnel.
- Must use diplomacy in difficult and stressful situations.
Qualifications
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Fleet drivers must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
- Must complete a pre-employment screening; ICE is a drug-free workplace.
Education & Experience Requirements
- An HS diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical college coursework in engineering is preferred.
- 2 or more years of highway construction or asphalt roadway experience is preferred.
- A minimum of four years of experience in DOT QC/inspection work is required with current certifications.
- Strong written and communication skills required.
- Proficient in Microsoft programs and able to learn new technology.
- Above-average math and problem-solving skills are required.
Physical Demands
- The role involves moderate physical activity such as walking, standing, bending, and climbing stairs or ladders.
- Employees may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds.
- It is essential for employees to navigate construction sites skillfully and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.
- Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and proficiency in recognizing sound, tone, and pitch.
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
- The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow, as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods.
- Employees must be capable of working in varied environmental conditions, including hot, cold, and noisy settings, and be able to stand and walk during site visits.
- Additionally, working on construction projects may involve night work and weekend work depending on the project scope and may include working in conditions with active traffic.
Expected Hours of Work
- The ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing an unpaid hour for lunch daily.
- Work schedules may vary according to the project schedule.
