About the Role

Michael Baker International is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Manager with a proven track record of successfully delivering complex transportation and roadway projects. This leadership role requires a strong blend of project management, client relationship management, technical roadway design expertise, and team leadership.

The ideal candidate will lead multidisciplinary project teams, manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality, and serve as a trusted advisor to clients while driving project success from pursuit through delivery. This individual will also play a key role in mentoring staff, supporting business development efforts, and contributing to the continued growth of Michael Baker's transportation practice in Mississippi.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Technical Manager for roadway and transportation projects, leading teams through planning, design, permitting, and construction support phases.
  • Manage all aspects of project delivery, including scope, schedule, budget, resource allocation, risk management, and client communications.
  • Lead, coordinate, and oversee multidisciplinary project teams to ensure successful execution and delivery of projects on time and within budget.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with state DOTs, local agencies, municipalities, and other clients while serving as the primary point of contact.
  • Utilize OpenRoads Designer for geometric design, corridor modeling, digital terrain modeling, and plan production.
  • Prepare, review, and approve engineering analyses, design calculations, technical reports, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Monitor project financial performance, including budget tracking, forecasting, contract compliance, and change management.
  • Lead project meetings, facilitate coordination among stakeholders, and proactively resolve technical and project-related challenges.
  • Conduct and oversee quality assurance and quality control reviews to ensure compliance with AASHTO, DOT, and client-specific standards.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and design staff, fostering technical excellence and professional growth.
  • Support business development activities, including client engagement, proposal preparation, scope development, fee estimates, and project pursuits.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and innovative design solutions that enhance project outcomes and client satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in civil engineering with a focus on roadway and transportation projects.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mississippi, or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
  • Demonstrated experience managing roadway design projects for state DOTs and local agencies.
  • Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer required.
  • Strong knowledge of AASHTO, DOT, and transportation design standards, policies, and best practices.
  • Proven ability to manage project budgets, schedules, contracts, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience developing scopes of work, fee proposals, and project execution plans.

Pay

The approximate compensation range for this position is $175,000 to $195,000. This range is a good faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
