Transportation Supervisor II (Night)
This role leads a team of drivers and navigators at the Chick-fil-A Supply Distribution Center in Olathe, KS. Reporting to the Transportation Operations Manager, the Transportation Supervisor ensures safe, efficient operations that meet organizational needs and key performance indicators while delivering exceptional customer service to Chick-fil-A restaurant Operators.

Schedule
- Base schedule: 4:00 PM to 3:00 AM, 4 days per week
- On-call support required during weekends and evenings as needed
- Average of 10-hour days (about 45 hours per week), with flexibility required for weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts

Equipment
- Tractor: Brand new Kenworth T680 automatic with leather, air-ride seats; truck GPS; rear and side-view cameras for reversing
- Trailer: 48” Great Dane featuring electric side lift gates with gutter guard and tandem lights over rear tires
- Power Sleds: Battery-powered pallet jacks for easy product movement into restaurants
- Mobile Devices: Samsara devices and a mobile app for parking/unloading guidance at each restaurant, plus ELD charging in the cab
- In-House Maintenance Team: Onsite mechanics to keep equipment running smoothly
Responsibilities
- Leading Teams with Communication and Care:
- Motivate, staff, schedule, and support a dynamic team responsible for delivering, transporting, unloading, and completing other outbound distribution tasks
- Establish working relationships with store Operators to drive seamless integration between the distribution center and restaurant operations
- Act as a liaison, balancing Operator needs with operational capabilities
- Deliver high service levels to Operators and achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Train and develop a strong team
- Collaborate with the Transportation Manager on staff performance, identify areas of improvement, and recognize outstanding performance
- Support Chick-fil-A’s vision and strategy by building a culture aligned with Chick-fil-A Supply values of care, safety, and excellence
- Work closely with the MDC Leadership Team, CFA Supply Services, and business partners to ensure optimal alignment and collaboration
- Safety:
- Troubleshoot issues with drivers during deliveries
- Conduct restaurant delivery audits to ensure outstanding driver performance and identify areas for operational improvements
- Efficiency and Organization:
- Optimize driver/route assignments, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local DOT guidelines regarding routing time and drivers’ hours of service
- Lead the processing of trip reports and other documentation
- Monitor data (e.g., payroll entries) to enable effective tracking of expenditures
- Support budget management of outbound transportation at the distribution center
Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
- Experience:
- 5+ years of leadership experience with private fleet operations (7+ years preferred)
- Demonstrated experience with food service distribution, including outbound transportation procedures, regulations, equipment, and performance metrics
- Working knowledge of supply chain and warehouse operations innovations
- Experience in warehouse operations supporting food distribution or manufacturing (preferred)
- Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of and ability to ensure compliance with safety standards, quality specifications, and governmental requirements
- Strong aptitude for critical thinking, problem-solving, and driving improvements in a professional and respectful manner
- Exceptional organization, attention to detail, and communication skills
- Ability to negotiate and resolve conflict while treating all parties with honor, dignity, and respect
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access; experience with ERP, WMS, and TMS solutions (preferred)
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements for driver labor scheduling and safety (preferred)
- Class A CDL (preferred)
- Physical Ability: Ability to complete physically demanding work, including consistently lifting up to 65 pounds
- Schedule Flexibility: Availability for on-call support on weekends, holidays, and evenings, with shift flexibility as needed
- Travel: Must live within 60 miles of the distribution center; 15% travel for Chick-fil-A Operator/market/DC visits, supplier visits, and related conferences
- Language Proficiency: Proficient in English (reading, writing, and speaking) to safely follow verbal instructions, complete documentation, and interpret labels, pick lists, scanner prompts, signage, and company communications
