Transportation Supervisor
Brief Description
The Transportation Supervisor oversees all logistics and transportation operations across multiple branch locations, ensuring the safe, timely, and cost-effective movement of remanufactured transformers and related equipment. This role is critical in an expedited, customer-focused environment where delivery performance and regulatory compliance directly impact business success.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily transportation activities, including fleet operations, routing, dispatching, and coordination with internal drivers, contract carriers, and 3PL partners.
- Arrange inter-company and direct-to-customer shipments from all branches, including expedited and “Hot Shot” deliveries.
- Ensure compliance with FMCSA/DOT regulations, including hours of service, electronic logs, safety, and maintenance requirements.
- Oversee maintenance and repair of delivery trucks to maintain DOT compliance and vehicle safety.
- Cook with customer shipping inquiries, complaints, and exceptions with professionalism and urgency.
- Manage flatbed and dry van operations for domestic and international shipments, including LTL, full truckload, and small parcel.
- Maintain on-time to first promise (OTFP) delivery, on-time pickup (OTP), and on-time delivery (OTD) performance across all regions.
- Review and approve freight invoices, track transportation costs, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Build carrier relationships and lead service improvement initiatives.
- Hire, train, and develop transportation staff to ensure safety, performance, and service quality.
- Cook with the Director of Transportation on Enterprise transportation strategies inclusive of carriers, operational compliance, and communications.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- College degree or 2-year vocational or Associates preferred.
- 5+ years in transportation/logistics, preferably in industrial or manufacturing sectors for mission critical equipment deliveries and reverse logistics.
- 3+ years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations, vehicle maintenance, and ELDs.
- Experience with flatbed and dry van shipping, including international and expedited freight.
- Proven track record in driving delivery performance and managing customer expectations.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
