Transportation Supervisor 1
About the role
The Transportation Supervisor directly supervises drivers/employees in the Market Haul and Live Haul Departments.
Responsibilities
- Works with scheduling on pickups and transfers.
- Maintains good communication with Dispatch and subordinates.
- Ensures all safety policies are followed.
- Aids in vehicle accident investigations.
- Understands DOT regulations; reviewing driver’s “Hours Summary” daily to prevent DOT violations.
- Reviews and approves payroll summary and timecards.
- Aids managers in scheduling work, maintaining equipment, completing daily checklists in sanitation facilities.
- Aids manager in completing monthly safety, EMS/IPS training with employees, inspections of facilities and controlled documents.
- Works with garages to ensure equipment is maintained and repaired properly and timely.
- Incumbent will be responsible for understanding and complying with company Environmental, Safety and Biosecurity policies and procedures in the performance of their job duties.
- Responsible for ensuring that all animals are managed in accordance with Smithfield Animal Care Policy, and employees are trained and accountable to that standard.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED and 2 years’ experience in Transportation, Logistics, or Customer Service, required.
- 1+ years of supervisor experience, preferred.
- Must have valid U.S. driver’s license with acceptable driving record per company policy.
- CIDL class A license, preferred.
- Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Software.
- Basic understanding of and ability to work with technology such as Microsoft applications, tablets and Samsara.
- Ability to obtain TQA Certification.
- Weekend, evening and holiday work required as needed.
- Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and discipline of employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
- Must be supportive of the mission of raising swine for human consumption of high-quality pork products.
- Must be able to tolerate blood, animal dander, manure, dust, odors, and frequently noisy conditions.
Pay
The expected pay range for this position is $52,500 - $77,500 annually.
