About the role

The Transportation Services Representative 1 position at the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Driver and Motor Vehicles Division (DMV) Field Services Group / Mt. Hood Region in Portland assists the public with various DMV services including driver license applications, vehicle registration, and permit issuance. The role involves administering knowledge, skill, and vision tests, providing customer service, and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the public with obtaining a driver license, registering vehicles, and issuing permits and license plates.
  • Administer knowledge, skill, and vision tests to potential drivers.
  • Ensure correct fees are collected and provide information about regulations and policies.
  • Administer behind-the-wheel drive tests.
  • Perform physical examinations of vehicles and verify vehicle identification numbers.
  • Prepare daily bank deposits and account for sensitive inventory.
  • Occasionally perform relief work in other DMV offices within the region.
  • May require standing for extended periods of time, working in inclement weather, working an irregular schedule, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to type at least 30 words per minute with a high level of accuracy.

Requirements

  • Two years of public contact/customer service experience involving dealing with the public in person or by phone providing information about services/programs or explaining and/or applying rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data.
  • Three months experience collecting money and making change.
  • Completion of an associate’s degree will substitute for one year of the public contact experience.
  • Driving is an essential function of this position. Valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record are required.

  • Pre-employment driving records checks will be conducted on the final candidate(s).
  • Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
