About the Role

This position supports Ryder’s Continuous Improvement culture across operations by applying continuous improvement methods to new and existing processes. The Engineer will identify and drive change through data-driven CI, Engineering, and Automation efforts to enhance safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance. This role interfaces with employees at all levels and reports to the Lead Engineer, CI Manager, or Sr. CI Manager, closely aligning with Operations Management.

Responsibilities

  • Collect data and perform statistical analysis.
  • Map and document processes.
  • Identify process gaps independently; recommend and implement process improvements.
  • Develop and manage a continuous improvement plan to drive value for customers (transformation plan development and execution).
  • Drive process improvement activities to achieve tangible results in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee development.
  • Manage and complete CI and steady-state engineering projects to improve business results.
  • Assess CI initiatives and provide input on future activities.
  • Support go-live and steady-state certifications.
  • Identify and support Automation projects.
  • Regularly interact with operations management and/or customers.
  • Develop and demonstrate competency in engineering methods, Lean tools, and quality standards.
  • Coach employees in CI and Lean principles.
  • Apply engineering methodologies/tools such as product slotting, labor standards (time studies), flow optimization, data profiling, and resource modeling to improve transportation operations.
  • Facilitate and execute Value Stream Maps & Kaizen Events (A3 charter creation, pre-work, Kaizen week delivery, follow-up, and sustainment).
  • Coach process owners on Lean methods for operational excellence.
  • Provide regular reports on data and actions to measure progress against site objectives.
  • Make Supply Chain strategy recommendations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
  • 5+ years of related work experience in the Transportation or Supply Chain Industry.
  • Transportation experience (Transportation Management, Dedicated, FTL, LTL).

Qualifications

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) – Expert level.
  • Data visualization (Power BI, Tableau) and database programming (SQL, DAX) – Intermediate (Preferred).
  • Functional experience in developing and managing:
    • Leader Standard Work
    • Visual Management Systems
    • Management Accountability Systems
    • Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA)
    • Value Stream Mapping
    • Kaizen
    • 5S/Workplace Organization – Beginner level.
  • Understanding and experience in core engineering and data analysis functions (slotting, utilization, labor planning, layouts, metrics) – Intermediate level.
  • Knowledge of Dedicated Services and Managed Transportation Networks.
  • Knowledge of equipment types (dry van, temperature control, flatbed, specialized equipment).
  • Transportation Design Tools (JDA, Appian), Network Design Tools (Llamasoft/Optilogic), Transportation Management Systems (JDA, OTM), Mapping Software (Tableau/Power BI) – Intermediate (Preferred).
  • Lean Methodology – Preferred.
  • Supply Chain Logistics Certification – Preferred.

Pay

Salaried position with a minimum pay range of $90,000 and a maximum pay range of $100,500. Eligibility for annual bonus, commission, and/or long-term incentive plan may apply based on role level/type.
