Transportation Planning Intern

About the role

HDR’s Transportation Business Group designs resilient highways, iconic bridges, transit, rail, aviation, ports, and marine infrastructure that support economic vitality, public safety, sustainable communities, and quality of life. As a Transportation Planning Intern you will help shape the systems that move people and goods safely, efficiently, and sustainably while working alongside planners, engineers, architects, construction managers, environmental specialists, economists, and consultants.

Responsibilities

• Participate in real‑world experience on exciting projects
• Connect with recent college graduates and company leaders through mentoring and young professionals’ programs
• Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures
• Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional or Project Manager
• Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 2 years completed toward a degree with a 3.0+ GPA
• Basic knowledge of CADD (Open Roads Designer a plus)
• Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
• Preference given to local/regional candidates pursuing a Civil Engineering degree during Summer 2027

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate engineering program
• Attention to detail
• Strong problem‑solving and communication skills
• Basic Microsoft Office skills
• An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of HDR’s employee‑owned culture

Schedule

Full‑time, temporary internship during Summer 2027.

Location: El Paso, Texas, United States.

Industry: Highway + Road.
