About the role

The Planner assists with community and regional planning programs and long-range planning for rural/small town communities by providing technical and advisory assistance regarding transportation planning, economic development, disaster recovery planning, hazard mitigation planning, comprehensive and land use planning, and land development regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Cook up regional transportation planning activities
  • Facilitate a Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) and Multi-Modal TAC to identify and prioritize rural transportation needs
  • Develop local transportation plans and recommend transportation policies for local governments
  • Aid in the creation of local comprehensive plans
  • Aid in the creation of land use regulations and policies
  • Aid in the creation of grant proposals for community and transportation projects
  • Aid in scoping new planning projects and service contracts
  • Give presentations on transportation needs, project overviews, and funding proposals to a variety of audiences
  • Offer administrative services to the APA Missouri Chapter

Requirements

Practical experience in planning is required. Experience in transportation planning is preferred, but experience in rural/small town planning, regional planning, economic and/or community development, or a related field will be considered.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in city and regional planning or a related field is required.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of urban planning and a strong research background are required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, computer skills, including word processing, database management, graphic design, and presentation software, and the ability to compile and analyze technical and statistical data are required.
  • The ability to work with minimum supervision, meet deadlines, and work efficiently in non-routine situations is required.
  • The ability to work effectively with the public and elected officials is required.

Skills

Pay

$42,000 - $46,000
