Transportation Planner

About the role
This position oversees the day-to-day load planning for various modes of transportation including intermodal, truckload, multi-stop, and less-than-truckload for specific distribution/manufacturing locations. Key responsibilities include coordinating load planning across all modes, optimizing customer service and operational efficiencies, resolving shipment issues, and collaborating with logistics teams.
Responsibilities
- Review shipment routing and freight costs to optimize service and cost
- Determine carrier assignments based on transit time, carrier base, and cost
- Communicate effectively with customer service, plants/DCs, and carriers to minimize impact of late/potentially late trucks
- Understand and manage the financial implications of transportation on the department's P&L
- Ensure compliance with LSNA protocols and monitor carrier performance
- Approve upcharges and additional costs with carriers when necessary
- Assist with special projects and duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience in consumer-packaged goods
- Transportation/logistics management experience preferred
- Working knowledge of TMS
- Refrigerated and less-than-truckload transportation experience preferred
- Strong analytical skills
