Transportation Operations Technician II - Temporary

About the role

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is hiring seasonal Transportation Operations Technicians to support highway maintenance and winter operations in Colchester. This hands-on role involves a variety of tasks that keep Vermont's roads safe and reliable, including repairing guardrails, patching pavement, ditching, clearing brush, and picking up litter. Seasonal staff also play a critical role in plowing and salting during winter weather events. Overtime may be required.

Responsibilities

• Repairing guardrails
• Patching pavement
• Ditching
• Clearing brush
• Picking up litter
• Plowing and salting during winter weather events
• Withstanding exposure to extreme outdoor weather
• Being available for considerable overtime during heavy snowfall or other emergencies
• Reporting to work outside of regular schedule/area and being reachable by phone
• Using tools and lifting materials commonly used in maintenance work
• Facing normal dangers associated with work on or near heavy equipment, hazardous materials, and roadside litter debris
• Possible exposure to blood or airborne pathogens
