About the role
The overall function of this position is to supervise and monitor the work operation of multi parish-wide maintenance units and assist the Assistant ADA of Maintenance (Engineer 7 DOTD) in managing the maintenance unit’s activities. This position is located in District 61, Area C, which includes Ascension, Assumption, Iberville, and St. James parishes of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Assistant ADA of Maintenance (Engineer 7 DOTD). The incumbent must be self-motivated, able to perform duties with minimal supervision, and interpret unforeseen conditions as they arise. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs and attend continuing education classes and conferences as required.

Responsibilities
- Supervises the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendents and monitors the production of the parish maintenance units.
- Assists the Assistant ADA of Maintenance in planning, scheduling, and coordinating maintenance management activities in conjunction with parish superintendents and foremen.
- Coordinates the training of maintenance personnel with the District Training Specialist and oversees safe operating checklists (SOCL's) for employees.
- Approves sick and annual leave; prepares and conducts employee performance appraisals; interviews applicants; maintains employee records; and makes recommendations for promotions, reallocations, merit increases, and other personnel actions.
- Collects roadway condition information for the highway needs study and makes recommendations for the Districtwide Road Preservation Program, the Contract Maintenance Program, and the Interstate Rehabilitation Program.
- Inspects roads and bridges to estimate annual workload, schedule repairs, and determine priority and budget needs.
- Inspects maintenance work performed under contract with DOTD, including roadway, drainage, and mowing contracts, and recommends acceptance.
- Inspects the condition of maintenance equipment; computes and monitors quantities of materials used in maintenance activities; reviews documentation of all work completed by parish maintenance crews.
- Meets with local government officials and coordinates work with local government agencies.
Requirements
Five years of experience in one or a combination of the following fields:
- Construction or maintenance of transportation infrastructure.
- Fabrication, installation, or maintenance of traffic control devices.
- Maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic equipment, precision machinery, or electronic and electrical systems.
Pay
The starting hourly rate is $31.60 and goes up to $56.86.
