About the role
The Placer Hills Union School District transportation mechanic, assigned to work at the District Office, is responsible for completing inspections, performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and diagnosing problems, and performing basic and advanced mechanical service and repair work for both diesel and gasoline powered district automotive vehicles, district maintenance equipment and district school buses. The mechanic will keep required records of work performed on each vehicle.
Responsibilities
- Complete inspections, perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot and diagnose problems
- Perform basic and advanced mechanical service and repair work for diesel and gasoline powered vehicles, maintenance equipment, and school buses
- Keep required records of work performed on each vehicle
- Organize and maintain a timely schedule of necessary repairs to buses
- Use manual and computerized diagnostic test methods
- Work efficiently and effectively under minimal direct supervision
- Work collaboratively and cooperatively with all other transportation and maintenance department employees
- Communicate effectively in both oral and written form
- Utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, design and advisory data and information
- Maintain knowledge of rules and regulations regarding tires, depth, repair and replacement
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Five years of progressively skilled vehicle repair experience, the majority of which involves service and repair of diesel powered vehicles and equipment or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Possession of personal set of basic tools
- Ability to organize and maintain a timely schedule of necessary repairs to buses
- Ability to use manual and computerized diagnostic test methods
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively under minimal direct supervision
- Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with all other transportation department and maintenance department employees
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
- Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, design and advisory data and information
- Knowledge of rules and regulations regarding tires, depth, repair and replacement
Desirable Qualifications
- Formal Certification or Mechanic License (ASE, Wyotech, etc.)
Requirements
- Ability to pass a Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance and drug test
- TB clearance
- Commercial Class B License (Training Available)
- Air Brakes endorsement (Training Available)
