Transportation Mechanic/School Bus

Placer Hills Union School District, established in 1948 and nestled in the Sierra Foothills, serves approximately 750 students from transitional kindergarten through 8th grade in Meadow Vista and surrounding communities. About the role

The transportation mechanic is responsible for completing inspections, performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and diagnosing problems, and performing basic and advanced mechanical service and repair work for both diesel and gasoline powered district automotive vehicles, district maintenance equipment, and district school buses. The role includes keeping required records of work performed on each vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Complete inspections and perform preventative maintenance on district vehicles and equipment.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical problems in diesel and gasoline powered vehicles.
• Perform basic and advanced mechanical service and repair work on district automotive vehicles, maintenance equipment, and school buses.
• Maintain required records of all work performed on each vehicle.
• Organize and maintain a timely schedule of necessary repairs to buses.
• Use manual and computerized diagnostic test methods.
• Work collaboratively with transportation and maintenance department employees.
• Communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
• Utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, design, and advisory data and information.
• Adhere to rules and regulations regarding tires, depth, repair, and replacement.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Five years of progressively skilled vehicle repair experience, the majority of which involves service and repair of diesel powered vehicles and equipment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Possession of a personal set of basic tools.
• Ability to work efficiently and effectively under minimal direct supervision.
• Ability to pass a criminal justice fingerprint clearance and drug test.
• TB clearance.

Qualifications

• Commercial Class B License (Training Available).
• Air Brakes endorsement (Training Available).
• Formal Certification or Mechanic License (ASE, Wyotech, etc.) is desirable.
