Transportation Manager - IDEA Palmview (Immediate Opening)

About the role

Provide safe transportation for up to 1,000 students on a daily basis while reducing operational cost. Successfully manage a team of up to 20 people as well as interacting and partnering with campus leaders to drive success. IDEA Public Schools serves over 80,000 college‑bound students across Texas, Florida, Ohio, and is on‑track to maintain its legacy of sending 100% of its graduates to college.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe transportation of all students with zero preventable incidents/accidents.
• Oversee daily operations of the dispatch office; monitor two‑way radios to address bus problems, lateness and accidents.
• Receive and respond to drivers' accidents; drive to accident scenes, conduct internal investigations, gather information, take photos, assist students and staff, obtain reports from highway patrol and police.
• Receive and respond to emergency calls after hours and on weekends.
• Maintain efficient operation with Cost Per Mile <$3.70.
• Develop driver schedules that keep drivers focused on driving while on the clock.
• Continuously audit team participation to prevent abuse of systems.
• Monitor preventive maintenance to avoid costly repairs.
• Serve as a substitute bus driver when needed.
• Ensure transportation staff retention ≥85%.
• Screen employees to ensure only qualified, quality, dedicated individuals are hired.
• Ensure employees understand expectations and work conditions before hire.
• Maintain fleet in safe operating condition while achieving 7% maintenance cost savings over previous year.
• Ensure maintenance supplies are not over‑purchased.
• Perform preventive maintenance in systematic order.
• Utilize Transfinder to create/update routes at the campus level; keep routes up‑to‑date, ensure no route exceeds 10% more than its roster rating.
• Keep driver and student records up‑to‑date in Route Finder.
