About the role
Manage all RDC yard activities and personnel, maintain accurate records, and assist in resolving system or operational issues affecting inbound or outbound performance.
Responsibilities
- Assist in resolving system issues during daily load processing.
- Maintain carrier and system status messages, mitigating expected inbound and/or outbound delivery impacts.
- Communicate daily with key stakeholders including the Director of Transportation, Claims Coordinator, and Transportation Supervisors, Leads, and TOAs regarding shipping activities.
- Coordinate with warehouse operations teams and RDC carriers to ensure efficient production levels and yard operations.
- Oversee, hire, train, develop, evaluate, and maintain discipline of Transportation Supervisors, Leads, and TOAs.
- Coordinate personnel coverage to ensure required transportation functions are completed and provide adequate support to TOA positions and yard activities.
- Oversee yard service operations to maintain adequate service levels supporting RDC warehouse operations.
- Oversee yard processes to ensure accuracy of trailer locations, temperature settings, refrigerated trailer performance, and safety for all associates and contractors involved in yard operations.
- Administer company policies and procedures, including training, disciplining, and terminating associates.
- Maintain an accurate filing system.
- Back up TOAs, Leads, and Supervisors in their absence.
- Understand and comply with all applicable company policies.
- Accept additional responsibilities or special projects as requested.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provide direction and leadership up to nine persons in the Transportation Department including supervisors, a lead, and transportation ops associates.
- Conduct annual associate performance evaluations for direct reports.
- Maintain ongoing feedback on subordinate and department performance through monitoring activities and reports.
- Communicate and address issues and department status to transportation management.
- Determine and provide training and development for staff members as needed.
- Aid in personnel recruitment to meet departmental staffing requirements.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in a related field preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Pass a functional capacity test.
- Must demonstrate ability to plan and organize work, analyze and disseminate numerical data, follow policies and procedures, perform moderate math calculations, and identify and solve problems.
- Basic knowledge of transportation modes and rules governing interstate commerce preferred.
- Good knowledge of logistics/transportation operations and available transportation services for the area and industry.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with individuals of various backgrounds and educational levels.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, distance, and volume.
