SUMMARY
Responsible for managing all RDC yard activities and the personnel involved in those activities, maintaining accurate records, and assisting in resolving system or operational issues which may affect inbound or outbound performance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in resolving any system issues which may arise in daily load processing.
- Maintain accurate records and assist in resolving system or operational issues which may affect inbound or outbound performance.
- Communicate daily with Director of Transportation, Claims Coordinator, and Transportation Supervisors, Transportation Leads, and Transportation Operations Associates (TOAs) concerning shipping activities.
- Communicate daily with warehouse operations teams and RDC carriers to facilitate efficient production levels and yard operations.
- Oversee, hire, train, develop, evaluate and maintain discipline of Transportation Supervisors, Transportation Leads, and TOAs.
- Care for yard service (yard jockey) operations to maintain adequate service levels to support RDC warehouse operations.
- Oversee yard processes to ensure accuracy of trailer locations, temperature settings, refrigerated trailer performance, and safety for all associates and contractors involved in yard operations.
- Have knowledge of and effectively administer all company policies and procedures, including training, disciplining and termination of associates.
- Maintain accurate filing system.
- Back up the TOAs, Transportation Leads, and Transportation Supervisors in their absence in all of their duties and responsibilities.
- Understand and comply with all applicable company policies (i.e. attendance, Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, Associate Handbook, etc.).
- Accept additional responsibilities or special projects as requested. Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Must pass a functional capacity test.
- Must have demonstrated ability to plan and organize work and time, analyze and disseminate numerical data, follow policies and procedures, perform moderate math calculations, and identify and solve problems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required. Bachelor’s Degree from a four year college or university in a related discipline is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
- Basic knowledge of transportation modes and the rules and regulations governing interstate commerce and changes in regulations as they apply is preferred.
- Good knowledge of logistics/transportation operations and available transportation services for the area and industry.
- Basic computer knowledge.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Must be articulate and effective with written and verbal communication with individuals of broadly varying backgrounds and educational levels. Must have clear, concise written and oral communication skills.
- Must have ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Must have ability to effectively present information to a large audience and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, contractors, and customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Must have ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, distance and volume.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Must be able to work in a proactive manner, address issues, and solve problems using previous education and experience in identifying appropriate actions.
- Must possess excellent communication skills, organizational skills, problem solving skills and effectively interact with several different personalities and levels of people. Must be self-motivated.

- No certification or registrations needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
- While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to talk and hear. The associate frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, walk up and down stairs, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The associate must occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The associate must frequently open, close and latch trailer doors, both roll up doors and swing doors. The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and/or push/pull up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to fast moving motor vehicles or other mechanical equipment. The associate is frequently exposed to all types of outside weather conditions and to vehicle emissions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with occasional higher noise levels.
WORK HOURS
- This is a full-time position. The incumbent must have the ability to work a varying schedule which might include shift work (days or nights), weekdays or weekends, and some holidays. Work hours may vary or change based on RDC operations requirements.
TRAVEL
- Some travel may be required to support RDC business needs.
