About the role
The Pima County Department of Transportation seeks a skilled and team-oriented Transportation Maintenance Specialist I to join our Pavement Marking crew. This position is responsible for the application and maintenance of pavement markings at intersections and along roadway segments using specialized equipment and machinery.
Responsibilities
- Performs skilled analysis and repair of equipment, systems and vehicles
- Led others in highly skilled fabrication or modifications of existing or proposed equipment, facilities, systems or their components from verbal directions, sketches, plans, engineering drawings or technical references
- Inspects, services and maintains assigned tools, equipment and vehicles
- Performs quality control analysis on equipment or supported systems for proper functioning and performs remedial actions necessary to assure optimum operations
- Maintains comprehensive activity, operations, service and usage records on supported vehicles, equipment and systems
- Prepares estimates for unique or complex operations, maintenance and special projects from rough sketches and engineering plans or drawings, and documents use and expenditure of materials, supplies and equipment
- Prepares sketches and drawings for work proposed or in-progress to communicate needed information to supervisors, subordinates and contractors
- Covers own or work-unit activities with other work-units, agencies or contractors to assure optimal use of available resources and to minimize disruptions of service or support
- Maintains coordination with contractors for performance monitoring and reporting
- Maintains and stores hazardous materials required, encountered or generated in work activities
Requirements
- Completion of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program in general transportation construction maintenance AND one year of journey-level experience in general transportation construction maintenance
- Five years of journey-level experience general transportation construction maintenance
- Two years of experience with Pima County as a Trades Maintenance Technician in the specific trade, craft, specialty or operational area of required expertise
Qualifications

- Two years of experience with Pima County as a Trades Maintenance Technician in the specific trade, craft, specialty or operational area of required expertise
Skills
- Experience applying pavement markings along roadway segments and at intersections using specialized equipment and machinery
- Experience setting up and taking down temporary traffic control devices for work zone operations
- Experience using basic hand, power, and specialty tools for repairing and maintaining pavement marking equipment
- Experience loading and unloading material for daily jobs

Four, ten-hour shifts Monday - Thursday, 5:30 AM to 4:00 PM
