About the role
The Department of Transportation (DOT) has two openings in the Operations Warehouse for Transportation Maintenance Specialist I. This position involves receiving and issuing supplies and materials using all computerized inventory management programs, performing repairs on tools and small equipment, and operating a forklift and pick-up truck.
Responsibilities
- Distribution of items such as PPE, tools, traffic control devices, and materials to maintenance crews.
- Receive, count, and catalogue items purchased from vendors.
- Use management software to issue and track inventory items.
- Operate forklift to unload freight deliveries.
- Maintain a clean and orderly warehouse environment.
- Welding and fabrication of miscellaneous items needed by Maintenance Operations.
- Assembly and repair of various types of traffic control devices.
Requirements
- Completion of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program in welding fabrication or heavy equipment operation AND one year of journey-level experience in welding fabrication or heavy equipment operation.
- Five years of journey-level experience in welding fabrication or heavy equipment operation.
- Two years of experience with Pima County as a Trades Maintenance Technician in the specific trade, craft, specialty or operational area of required expertise.
Qualifications
- Valid driver license is required at time of application and appointment.
- Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment.
- A 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles.
- Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment.
Skills
- Experience completing submitted requests and distributing items to customers.
- Experience using computers including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Experience operating and working near forklifts.
- Experience welding for fabricating projects and minor repairs.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing small gas engines.
- Experience shaping, cutting, and joining wood to create items requested by customers.
