Assist and support school sites and the transportation department in creating and facilitating transportation opportunities for students to participate in extracurricular activities regardless of home campus.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
- Valid AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (required)
- Valid Arizona commercial driver’s license with passenger and air brake endorsement (required)
- At least one year experience operating a school bus and school bus equipment (required)
- Understanding of and compliance with all traffic laws (required)
- Valid first aid and CPR certification (required)
- Pass an annual (or as-required) drug screen urinalysis (required)
- Arizona School Bus Driver Certificate by meeting state requirements (required)
- Transportation dispatch experience (preferred)
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred)
- Working knowledge and experience with computers and office equipment
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals
- Ability to write general correspondence and speak effectively with others
- Ability to prioritize projects to meet deadlines
- Ability to apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance
- Ability to push, pull, or lift up to 50 pounds
Responsibilities
- Drive school bus on scheduled routes transporting students to and from school
- Transport students on educational field trips and sporting events, local and out of town
- Maintain order among passengers, supervise behavior, and enforce district standards of conduct on buses
- Conduct emergency evacuation drills twice yearly
- Administer first-aid when necessary
- Maintain interior and exterior of the bus clean and neat; make minor seat repairs and remove graffiti
- Service bus daily (fuel, oil, power steering fluid, coolant, windshield washer solvent, battery fluid)
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections as specified in Department of Transportation regulations
- Check bus constantly for mechanical defects and needed repairs; report defects on the daily inspection report
- Keep records of gas and oil usage, mileage, and number of students transported
- Attend monthly safety meetings
- Perform a 15-minute bus check prior to driving a scheduled route
- React professionally for the safety of students in emergencies
- Assist the Transportation Supervisor in managing the Transportation Department
- Prepare bus schedules, routes, and maps for extracurricular opportunities district-wide
- Assist in preparing memorandums outlining administrative procedures, policies, bus schedules, and driver schedules
- Maintain excellent working knowledge of bus routes, field trip requirements, schedules, and vehicle reservation requirements
- Maintain accurate records for state reporting and audits
- Assist in creating and submitting required reports for state and auditing purposes
- Learn, implement, and manage rider verification and routing software
- Create and facilitate training for drivers and school office staff on rider verification and routing software
- Perform other related duties as assigned

Schedule
Full-time (40 hours per week), 12-month classified hourly position.
