Responsibilities
- Reviews, inspects, and processes encroachment permit applications in accordance with established department policies and procedures.
- Maintains complete and accurate permit records and files.
- Inspects work performed by governmental agencies, contractors, utility companies, and property owners within the Department's right-of-way to ensure compliance with approved permits, Department specifications, and applicable policies.
- Conducts routine roadway inspections to identify maintenance needs and roadway deficiencies, including low or high shoulders, pavement markings, signs, potholes, drainage issues, ditches, and other defects.
- Prepares and maintains accurate field diaries, inspection records, and daily work reports in accordance with SCDOT policies and documentation requirements.
- Assists with emergency response and inclement weather operations as needed.
- Duties may require extended work hours, overnight assignments, weekends, holidays, and/or 12-hour shifts.
Requirements
- A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment or an approved acceptable equivalence.
Physical Demands
- Frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain.
- Working in close proximity to motoring traffic and in natural environmental hazards.
- May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week, especially during inclement weather.
- May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
