Transportation Engineering Technician II (61033123)

Responsibilities

• Reviews, inspects, and processes encroachment permit applications in accordance with established department policies and procedures.
• Maintains complete and accurate permit records and files.
• Inspects work performed by governmental agencies, contractors, utility companies, and property owners within the Department's right-of-way to ensure compliance with approved permits, Department specifications, and applicable policies.
• Conducts routine roadway inspections to identify maintenance needs and roadway deficiencies, including low or high shoulders, pavement markings, signs, potholes, drainage issues, ditches, and other defects.
• Prepares and maintains accurate field diaries, inspection records, and daily work reports in accordance with SCDOT policies and documentation requirements.
• Assists with emergency response and inclement weather operations as needed.
• Duties may require extended work hours, overnight assignments, weekends, holidays, and/or 12-hour shifts.

Requirements

• A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment or an approved acceptable equivalence.

Physical Demands

• Frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain.
• Working in close proximity to motoring traffic and in natural environmental hazards.
• May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week, especially during inclement weather.
• May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
