About the role

We are a hospital dedicated to providing high-quality care that transforms the lives of those living with disabling injuries and illnesses. The Transportation Driver is responsible for transporting patients and/or equipment to and from various outside appointments, clinics, nursing facilities, hospitals, or other ancillary locations via hospital-owned vehicle. This position must integrate company values into daily practice.

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients in a safe and professional manner.
  • Assures vehicles are clean and in working order; responsible for cleaning the inside of the van utilizing appropriate chemicals between patients.
  • Communicates with various hospital staff to receive relevant data and instructions.
  • Inspects vehicle prior to daily usage for safe and comfortable patient transport; reports vehicle concerns timely.
  • Assists with transferring and balancing patients; ensures patients’ physical and overall comfort.
  • Follows all patient safety and vehicle safety requirements.
  • Responsible for knowing what PPE to apply to patient and driver prior to transport.
  • Notifies proper staff regarding changes in condition or behavior of patient.
  • May be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies.
  • Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff; assesses risks and implements appropriate precautions.
  • Complies with approved safety and Infection Prevention standards.
  • Maintains regular attendance in keeping with assigned work schedule.
  • Completes required trainings as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the organization.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Basic Life Support card required.
  • Six months van transport experience preferred.
  • Must maintain acceptable driving record, current class-specific driver’s license, and insurability; driving record must meet the standards of the Transportation Policy.

Physical Requirements

  • A significant amount of sitting, driving, and reaching, often for prolonged periods of time.
  • Both gross and precise motor functions.
  • Lifting/exerting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard.
  • Close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to hear overhead pages.
